“Chain Breaker”
If you’ve been walking the same old road for miles and miles
If you’ve been hearing the same old voice tell the same old lies
If you’re trying to fill the same old holes inside
There’s a better life, there’s a better life
If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain taker
If you feel lost, He’s a way maker
If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior
If you got chains, He’s a chain breaker
We’ve all searched for the light of day in the dead of night
We’ve all found ourselves worn out from the same old fight
We’ve all run to things we know just ain’t right
When there’s a better life, there’s a better life
If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain taker
If you feel lost, He’s a way maker
If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior
If you got chains, He’s a chain breaker
If you believe it, if you receive it
If you can feel it, somebody testify
If you believe it, if you receive it
If you can feel it, somebody testify, testify
If you believe it, if you receive it
If you can feel it, somebody testify
If you’ve got pain, He’s a pain taker
If you feel lost, He’s a way maker
If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior
If you got chains, He’s a chain breaker
If you need freedom or saving, He’s a prison-shaking Savior
If you got chains, He’s a chain breaker
“The Stand”
You stood before creation
Eternity in your hand
You spoke the earth into motion
My soul now to stand
You stood before my failure
And carried the cross for my shame
My sin weighed upon your shoulders
My soul now to stand
So what can I say?
And what can I do?
But offer this heart, Oh God
Completely to you
So I’ll walk upon salvation
Your spirit alive in me
This life to declare your promise
My soul now to stand
So what can I say?
And what can I do?
But offer this heart, Oh God
Completely to you
I’ll stand
With arms high and heart abandoned
In awe of the one who gave it all
I’ll stand
My soul Lord to you surrendered
All I am is yours
Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)”
Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures
[2x]
My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.
Will be forever mine.
You are forever mine.
“Whole Heart (Hold Me Now)”
Hold me now
In the hands that created the heavens
Find me now
Where the grace runs as deep as Your scars
You pulled me from the clay
You set me on a rock
Called me by Your Name
And made my heart whole again
Lifted up
And my knees know it’s all for Your glory
I might stand
With more reasons to sing than to fear
You pulled me from the clay
Set me on a rock
Called me by Your Name
And made my heart whole again
So here I stand
High in surrender
I need You now
Hold my heart
Now and forever
My soul cries out
Once I was broken
But You loved my whole heart through
Sin has no hold on me
‘Cause Your grace holds me now
And that grace
Owns the ground where the grave did
Where all my shame remains
Left for dead in Your wake
You crashed those age-old gates
You left no stone unturned
You stepped out of that grave
And shouldered me all the way
So here I stand
High in surrender
I need You now
Hold my heart
Now and forever
My soul cries out
Once I was broken
But You loved my whole heart through
Sin has no hold on me
‘Cause Your grace holds me now
Healed and forgiven
Look where my chains are now
Death has no hold on me
‘Cause Your grace holds that ground
And Your grace holds me now
Your grace holds me now
Your grace holds me now
Your grace holds me now
So here I stand
High in surrender
I need You now
Hold my heart
Now and forever
My soul cries out
So here I stand
High in surrender
I need You now
Hold my heart
Now and forever
My soul cries out
So here I stand
High in surrender
I need You now
Hold my heart
Now and forever
My soul cries out
So here I stand
High in surrender
I need You now
Hold my heart
Now and forever
My soul cries out
Once I was broken
But You loved my whole heart through
Sin has no hold on me
‘Cause Your grace holds me now
Healed and forgiven
Look where my chains are now
Death has no hold on me
‘Cause Your grace holds that ground
And Your grace holds me now
Your grace holds me now
Your grace holds me now
Your grace holds me now
Healed and forgiven
Look where my chains are now
Death has no hold on me
‘Cause Your grace holds that ground
And Your grace holds me now
Your grace holds me now

JUN 14, 2020 | WEEK 7: Firmly Resist
SCRIPTURE: Daniel 11:32
“With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him.“
For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry. 2 Timothy 4:3
So, what do you do to firmly resist?
+ Stand Firm – this requires us to put on the full armor of God
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:13-17
+ Resist the Devil by submitting to God –
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. – the Greek word here means: to oppose – Satan knows where the real power is and he is not up to the fight James 4:7
+ Make sure your stand is on the Rock –
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Psalm 40:2
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24
+ Do not live in bondage when you are Free –
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a bondage of slavery. Galatians 5:1
Jesus has given you Life, don’t settle for an existence – Luke 21:19 Stand firm, and you will win life.
Virtual Family/Community Groups questions
- What does it mean for the Christian to be counter-cultural? {Leaders: ie. the charge against Paul and Silas in Ephesus… these men are (KJV) “have turned the world upside down”}
- 6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other believers before the city officials, shouting: “These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, 7 and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar’s decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus.” Acts 17:6-7 (NIV)
- As Christians, we are called to be an influence on the culture and not the culture having an influence on us. Does culture dictate most of what you/we do? How?
- Have you ever considered that to ‘resist firmly’ means to go against your culture; to be counter cultural? Give an example.
- How do we live as people of peace and turn the world upside down? How do you live peacefully counter-culturally?
- 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. John 17:16 (NIV)
- Can you think of any practical steps that we might take to hold people accountable and stand firm for the right thing {ie. justice or to make peace}???
- 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9 (NIV)
- 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:6 (NIV)
- What do I need to do to keep this as a priority? {Leaders: PTC3 Vision Statement “We are a praying church that serves in our homes, community, and world.” …
- Challenge others to labor to (1) start the work at home first, then (2) community, then (3) world.}
- Do not be concerned about who’s in the room as much as what you are bringing to the room.
- What do I need to do to keep this as a priority? {Leaders: PTC3 Vision Statement “We are a praying church that serves in our homes, community, and world.” …
- How do you separate relying on your strength or His Strength?

Grab Your Gear:
In your bag is a rock. Like the summary says, try to throw your rock, stomp on it, or find a way to destroy it. It’s probably really hard to do so, and that is why we refer to Jesus as our Rock! While Mr. George speaks, color your rock in a way that reminds you that Jesus is our Rock. Next you have three strips of paper. Have someone in your family put them around you like chains. Try to do the activity below with your chains on your hand. After you try it, rip the chains and break free. Then do the activity without your chains. How was it different? Isn’t it so much better to be free? That’s how Jesus wants us to live!

Summary:
Today’s sermon is all about standing firm in who God is to resist Satan and the evil desires, temptations, and wrongs he brings. We have to stand firm against what the world says, and hold on to the truth of what God says and who He is. Ephesians 6:13-17 does a great job of explaining how to stand firm with the Armor of God. The sermon also continued to say that we can stand firm by: resisting Satan and submitting to God; making a stand on our Rock, who is God; and not to live in bondage when we are free. When we resist the devil and submit to God that means we ignore what Satan wants us to do and focuses on what God says we need to do. We resist the urge to lie when it’s hard to tell the truth. We resist the temptation to be selfish when we are called to be people who are selfless. When we stand on the Rock, who is our God, that means we stand on who God is. We are not shaken by scary times, hard times, or sad times because we know our God is forever and He is greater. Think about it this way: pick up a rock, throw it, stomp of it, throw it down. What happened? Probably not much because that rock is sturdy and strong. That’s why our God is the Rock we need to stand on. He is sturdy and strong. He takes care of us no matter what! Psalm 40:2 says, “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Lastly we can’t live in bondage, because we are free! We are free because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for our sins. We don’t have to live a life of sin, we are free to be His children. Love, mercy, forgiveness, and worthiness are for everyone, because through Jesus we are free!
Activity:
Grab some sidewalk chalk and go outside. Using the chalk, draw something from the lesson or draw one of your favorite Bible stories. See how difficult it is when your hands are chained together!
Discussions Questions:
- What are some ways you can resist Satan today?
- How can you submit to God today?
- What are ways you can live your life in freedom?
Welcome to Real Thoughts!
Challenging Our Students to Engage and Go Deeper in Their Faith Through Thought Provoking Prompts and Ideas.
In light of our temporary shift to online platforms, we are still looking to provide students with the opportunity to dive into the text and explore the faith through these conversations, but with their families now! We encourage each of our students to engage in the main worship service with their families while using their YMJ’s (Youth Ministry Journals) to flush out how the conversation from stage relates to them and where they are in their faith walk. The hope is that, in so doing, students will find themselves more ready to engage in conversation about the lesson with those around them, having gained a better understanding of what it is that the lesson means to them. So, join us this week as we continue in the conversation on Daniel, and dive into chapter 11 verse 32!
Key Passage:
Daniel 11:32
Room For Thoughts:
Food For Thought
- It is often tempting to follow the ways of the world- what are the distractions that are the hardest for you to ignore from the world?
- Think of a time when you were tempted, but you resisted- how did you do it? How did you feel having overcome it?
- The peace we get from God does not mean an end to conflict or temptation- So, then, what does it mean? Journal your ideas!
- Some see this lack of an end to their struggles as being God’s fault and turn to the ways of the world. When you feel as though God hasn’t answered your prayers, what do you do?
- How can we resist the temptations of the world and remind ourselves of God’s faithfulness?
- How are you resolved to stand firm in your faith? How can you encourage others regardless of the situations they may find themselves in?
