Read today’s scripture: Isaiah 9:2-7
I love Christmas! It’s not the decorations, the gifts, and everything else that so many think of when they hear the word Christmas. For me it is the meaning; it is the message of the moment when the King of kings stepped out of His throne room and into a stable. This is the reason I love this passage, for it contains the insight into the why He did! Listen to the language, “you have shattered the yoke that burdens them”–shattered! The yoke of sin and death, not just defeated but shattered. I don’t know if you have ever truly shattered something, but let me assure you, once it is it will never exist again as it once did. This is His power, that He took our enemies and shattered them and so they no longer exist as they once did and because of this you and I are free to live the life that is more than an existence.
There is a second sentence that I want to be sure we think about during this season, “ The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.” Do you hear the declaration in these words? His zeal, that means nothing is going to stop Him from doing this, not a nation walking in darkness, not an empire seeking control, not being abandoned by friends, betrayal by a disciple or an enemy bent on destruction. Why? Because He loves you and His zeal burns for you. Merry Christmas
