Read today’s scripture: Deuteronomy 18:15-19
In the 18th chapter of Deuteronomy we see Moses continuing to list out laws and expectations for the Israelites as they enter into the Promise Land. Most laws are repetitive, so if we are not careful we can miss the importance of the verses we are focusing in on today. Back in the days of the Israelites, and still to Jews today, Moses was a big deal. He was their guy. God used him to save them, so Moses foreshadowing Jesus’ coming by saying this prophet was going to be like him was something they didn’t take lightly. This was huge! It was proof that God was going to do something big through His chosen people.
So, what does this mean for us? For me, it says a couple of things. One is the pretty obvious one, Jesus was always it. His coming, death, and resurrection were always the plan. Moses’ prophecy shows us that. The second thing is the depth and meaning behind Moses’ prophecy. Moses was favored in the eyes of the Lord, and Moses used this to prophecy the things God had promised to His people. May we follow in those same footsteps and prophecy the promise of Jesus returning again. We know this promise is true and will come to fruition, so in our time of celebrating His birth and awaiting His return may we speak of what Jesus has done and what He is going to do.
