Read today’s scripture: Luke 1:26-35
When I read this story, I am always in awe of Mary.
Personally, I love the details. I love plans, I love knowing what’s next. In the past, this has gotten me into trouble. Learning to trust the Lord with my next steps and the unseen has been a big part of my story. I am thankful for it, and now can choose to surrender things over to the Father and find comfort in where He is leading. I still love details, but I am no longer dependent on what I think is best. Rather, I find comfort in the fact that God’s way is always more creative and better than anything I could ever come up with on my own.
I am in awe of Mary because when an angel appeared to her, her response was for a moment shocked, but then immediately followed with, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true”
I want to be like Mary. I want to say, “yes” even in the midst of what seems intimidating or impossible. It’s never wrong to seek understanding and ask God honestly what He’s doing—His Word tells us that He is not a God of confusion but clarity, and the Holy Spirit will guide us into His goodness. But what we see here is that when God gives us a promise, He doesn’t want us to question it. God wants nothing more than for His people to trust Him even when we don’t know all the details.
When we don’t understand the reason for things, may we find comfort in the truth that God sees us all, has pursued us all, and equips us to whatever He is calling us to. May me respond, no matter the call, like Mary.
