Read today’s scripture: Galatians 4:4-7
Why now? I am sure many people have uttered those words at multiple times in their lives. I have often wondered if there was anyone in Jerusalem who uttered those words when it became apparent why the Magi had come. Many people may not associate this passage with the Christmas season, but I long have. I vividly remember the time in my teens when I discovered it and it’s message washed over me like a cool stream in a desert land.
“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law…” I implore you to hear it’s message, that before the foundation of the world was laid, the Father set in place and motion a plan to redeem us, to bring us back into relationship, to restore us as daughters and sons. The message is that Christmas was not a second to early or to late but at just the right time. For me, that level of planning and preparation says one thing, how much we must matter to the Father– that all of human history was brought to bear in that one moment just for you and me, for all of us. Merry Christmas indeed!
